onyx

Cartier, circa 1922
Designed as a series of domed links pavé-set with single-cut diamonds and onyx studs, alternating with polished onyx cylinders and emerald beads

French assay marks, length 19.2cm.

Bonham's New Bond Street
Sale 15235 - Fine Jewellery, 27 Sep 2007

Acutally not my most favorite Cartier piece, but its cool because of the "spotted" onyx diamond links. Delicate and unusual. Very expensive at auction.

Nice and simple. I love the cross-hatching you can see on some ivory, looks like its in motion. This is very elegant.

bird

Rare and Important Arts & Crafts Plique-a-jour Enamel and Gem-set Brooch,
C.R. Ashbee, executed by A. Gebhardt and W. Mark, c. 1902
The plique-a-jour shorebird on a grassy mound with topaz eye among bezel-set moonstones and flexibly-set freshwater pearls, gold and silver mount
3 3/8 x 4 1/4 in., (with antique pin stem, evidence of prior comb findings).

Skinner, Boston
Sale 2375 Sept 18, 2007 Lot 612
Estimate $50,000-75,000
Sold $165,500

This is not as magnificent as the Lalique plique-a-jour. Its more crafty and cute. I love the wiry detail on the base. Interesting piece by a decorative artist rather than a jeweller.

plique-a-jour enamel

Rene Lalique
Dog collar, circa 1900
Gold; Plique-à-jour enamel, old mine-cut diamonds, green enamel
Signed Lalique for René Lalique
Christie's "Rare Jewels and Gemstones: Eye of the Connoisseur"

A perfect Art Nouveau jewel. This piece, depicting a winged and female sylph is in direct reaction to the machine age and industry of the late 19th century. The use of materials such as glass and enamel was completely novel at this time. Another difference was the use of yellow gold rather than platinum. The gold gives the piece a sunny warm that platinum could not achieve.

chanel and verdura

Vari-shaped gemtone brooch
Gold
Fulco di Verdura for Chanel
1925

I hadn't seen this piece before stumbling on a site on Chanel jewelry. It is very similar to a pair that Diana Vreeland owned and that sold at Christie's 2005. It was done in 1925 but doesn't look of the era. Its interesting to note that Verdura started with Chanel as a textile designer before creating these Byzantine inspired looks in jewelry.

jade

Art Deco bracelet
A platinum mounted bracelet. Set with jade, chalcedony, amethyst and diamonds.
Highlighted with blue enamel.

Good color combo as well. Very Deco. The mix of jade and amethyst is great. The price of this piece is out of control.
